The Shade Experts USA supports Plant Today, an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) charitable corporation, established in 2008. They are about relationships–touching lives one person at a time through a partnership with a local church in the village of San Pedro Las Huertas; a remote area in Guatemala.
Their mission is to fill the physical and spiritual voids of the underserved — through relationships — by providing humanitarian assistance and specialized community outreach programs; funding and distribution of religious and educational materials; and local church assistance.
On a regular basis they hold eyeglass clinics, build houses for those in desperate need of shelter, stock a clothes closet, fund a food pantry, and support a community garden. They have also helped repair streets, paint buildings, provide training for a volunteer fire department, and build water stations around the village.
The area’s extreme illiteracy rate is 86%, This staggering fact has led them to begin a literacy project that offers the poorest children an opportunity to rise above their circumstances. Education is not mandatory, and the public school system charges a fee these families cannot pay. Many children — no matter how young — work to help feed their families. Many never attend school at all.
Their literacy project educates and feeds over 30 children. Most of them have never had two meals a day. Now they are thriving mentally and physically, and have a spiritual component added to their lives –often for the first time. Importantly, they are taking their educational and spiritual learning home, and sharing it with their parents, grandparents, and siblings.
Through partnering, they are expanding into other forgotten areas of Guatemala. Join them as they share Christ’s love with “the least of these.
